About  University: Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU), was established in 2002 by an act of the legislative assembly of the government of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the fastest-growing open universities in the country, offering over 230+ programs to over 1 million students. Undregrdaute admission at Tamil Nadu Open university has been started for essiom 2025-26. Students who wants to pursue UG courses in ditsmace mode can apply till the last date of 30th June 2025*. Admission to TNOU UG is merit-based, however, if the student has not passed 10+2, a special program namely a Bachelor of preparatory program is necessary to be eligible to apply for admission. The university offers a total of 27 undergraduate courses spanning streams such as Bachelor in English, History, Psychology, Commerce, management, and many others. 

BPP is offered to those who wish to do a bachelor’s degree from any open University but lack the essential qualification criteria of having passed 10+2. The minimum duration of BPP is 6 months, and the maximum is 2 years. To be eligible for admission to the UG program at Tamil Nadu Open University the applicant must have a 10+2 degree or TNOU BPP or degree from another recognized board. The minimum duration for completion of a UG program is 3 years, however, a student may take up to a maximum of 6 years to complete the program.

There are various courses offered by university at TNOU in distance mode. Online admission to the university has been started for session 2025-26 with the last date of 30th June 2025*. TNOU PG accepts admissions based on merit, however, admission is confirmed only after final counseling. To be eligible for admission to any master’s program, the applicant must have a relevant bachelor’s degree. The minimum duration for completion of any PG program is 2 years, although, a student may take up to 4 years. A total of 24 programs are offered with various specializations under Tamil Nadu Open University’s PG program covering courses such as Masters in Humanities, Management, Computer Science, and various others. Tamil Nadu Open University Diploma Admission

Tamil Nadu Open University admission for diploma courses are ongoing stunets wo wnat to apply acn submit the application form before 30th June 2025* for January cycle. The diploma program offers the most diverse set of courses in all of the programs offered by TNOU with separate branches of Diplomas for specific specializations such as Diploma programs, Vocational Diploma programs,  and Advanced Vocational Diploma programs.   • DIPLOMA PROGRAMS: TNOU offers 5 Diploma programs that offer admissions based on merit. To be eligible for admission to any of the Diploma programs offered the applicant must be 10th or 12th pass from any recognised board. The minimum duration to complete any Diploma program is 1 year, yet, a student may take up to 2 years.
  • Vocational Diploma Programs: The University offers 9 Job-oriented Vocational Diploma admissions which are merit-based. To be eligible for admission to this program one must have a 10th pass or equivalent certificate from any recognized institute. The minimum duration to complete any Diploma program is 1 year, however, a student may take up to 2 years.
  • Advanced Vocational Diploma Program: This program offers only one course which is the Advanced Vocational Diploma in General Duty Assistant which has a minimum duration for completion of 2 years and a maximum limit of 4 years.

As mentioned earlier all the admission processes have been shifted to online mode, hence the applications for admission into all the programs will be accepted only through the online application. Admissions in TNOU are primarily merit-based. Students need to have an HSC for admission into UG courses, whereas bachelor degree is required for PG programs.

  • To apply for new admissions students need to visit the TNOU e-portal.
  • Upon visiting the website, the home page will appear.
  • Click the menu ‘ONLINE ADMISSION’ available on top.
  • The applicant will be redirected to a new web page for making entries for new registration of students seeking admissions.
  • After registration, the applicant will need to log in by clicking on applicant login.
  • Fill in the details required and submit the application fee of INR 300 to conclude the application process for admission to TNOU.

The fee structure of TNOU is as diverse as the number of courses it offers, the University offers a total of 60+ courses. Out of these courses, there are 27 undergraduate programs, 24 post-graduate programs and the rest are diploma programs. The fee structure for these programs ranges from INR 2375 to INR 12,000.

  • PG Programs: The University offers its PG programs to students at a yearly fee ranging from INR 3350 to INR 12,500.
  • Diploma Programs: TNOU fee structure for courses offered under different diploma programs falls under the fee slab of INR 4000 to INR 7700 yearly.
